Belmont Stays Alive In NIT
(Indianapolis, IN) – Smarting from their second straight Ohio Valley Conference tournament loss, the Belmont Bruins took out their frustrations in a National Invitation Tournament game against the Georgia Bulldogs.
They buried them with threes. Fourteen of them to be exact. Four Bruins scored in double figures as Belmont (23-6) defeated the Southeastern Conference’s Georgia (19-15) by the score of 78-69. Dylan Windler led the way with 21 points and hitting three trios. Taylor Barnette (15 points) and Amanze Egikeze (14 points) both buried four long distance shots and OVC ‘Player of the Year’ Evan Bradds scored 15 points, grabbed nine rebounds and handed out five assists.
Belmont lost to the Bulldogs in the first round of last year’s NIT, and improved their all-time NIT record to 3-2. It was Belmont’s first postseason win since they won two NIT contests in 2014. Depending on class schedules, the Bruins can just stay in the Peach State. They’ll play Georgia Tech (18-15) Sunday in the NIT’s second round.
Belmont has won at least 20 games for seven straight seasons and 13 times in the past 14 years. Coach Byrd picked up coaching win 754 and Bradds’ 15 points gives him 1,895 for his Belmont career.
