(Boston, MA)  – The finalists for the 2022-23 Kyle Macy National Freshman of the Year award were announced on Thursday.

The Kyle Macy Award, which is presented annually to the top freshman in Division I college basketball, is named for a guard who starred as a freshman for Purdue.

Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year Cade Tyson is one of twenty-five finalists for the Macy Award. Tyson was the Valley’s highest scoring freshman and averaged 13.6 points per game. He was the league’s second best three-point marksman and free throw shooter. The 6’7 forward was also fifth in field goal percentage.

The 1975 Indiana “Mr. Basketball” played his freshman season at Purdue University, averaging 13.8 points per game while leading the Boilermakers in free throws (85.9 percent for the season). He started in 25 of 27 games, helping them to a 16-11 season record.

The recipient of the 2023 award will be announced in March, in Houston site of the men’s NCAA Basketball Championship.

Flooding, lightning strikes, etc. have cost @RacersHoops two home games. Had to play 'neutral site' tonight instead of at home and Wednesday's goes from home to away. Tough break for the Racers, and the whole area has been hit with difficulties. #FatherHarry

Murray State's scheduled home game Wednesday vs. Southern Illinois being moved to Banterra Center in Carbondale. #ValleyHoops

Gigantic game for @BradleyUMBB today in Des Moines. If they have a chance to catch @DrakeBulldogsMB, they have to win today. The Bulldogs can basically win the title today. @BustingBrackets breaks it all down. #FatherHarry https://bit.ly/3EGiVgi

Not rooting for any particular @ValleyHoops, but chaos is always fun. If things break certain ways, after today there could be a six-way tie for fifth place.
