Belmont’s Casey Alexander (& players) @ MVC Media Day

Belmont is Always Advancing

(St. Louis, MO) – Three new members of the Missouri Valley Conference recently experienced the MVC media day and one thing was apparent. Belmont is always advancing. The Bruins have made the rapid ascent from NAIA to NCAA Division 1 independent to mid-major power in amazing fashion.

Belmont, Murray State and Illinois Chicago have joined the MVC.

After five years as an independent and then four inconsistent seasons in the Atlantic Sun Conference, Belmont has been one of the nation’s top programs. The Bruins have won at least 20 games in 16 of the last seventeen seasons. During that time they have qualified for eight NCAA Tournaments. They’ve won 13 conference or divisional championships and participated in five other post season tournaments.

Belmont is always advancing and now they step up to the Missouri Valley Conference.

Coach Casey Alexander has guided the Bruins to an outlandish .802 winning percentage and produces academic all-conference players like Nashville produces country music stars. Alexander says moving to the Valley won’t be easy, but he is confident the ‘Bruin Way’ of doing things will work.

Guards Ben Sheppard and Keishawn Davidson are excited about the MVC move and are anxious to take on a new challenge.

Here is our MVC media day conversation with Alexander, Sheppard and Davidson.

Sheppard (16.2 ppg) was Belmont’s leading scorer and is a top flight defender. Tennessee Tech transfer Davidson averaged 10.4 points and 4.3 assists last season. Alexander will be leaning on those two veterans the navigate the early days of this new challenge.
