Belmont’s New ‘Voice of the Bruins’

John Freeman Joins the OVC Program

(St. Louis, MO) – Landing a job as the play-by-play voice of a Division 1 basketball program is the thrill of a life-time. John Freeman now has that thrill. He is the new ‘Voice of the Bruins’. While a veteran broadcaster, at a young age he has a long resume of exciting broadcasting experiences.

Freeman was worked NCAA Tournament games for Virginia, called professional soccer, worked for the ACC Network and has done some work for Tennessee State and Virginia Commonwealth. Replacing Kevin Ingram who moved to the Vanderbilt job is the thrill of a life-time.

This job did not come easily or quickly.

The Belmont Connection

Five years ago, Freeman reached out to every college program in the Nashville area. He selflessly moved to Music City because of his wife’s job situation. Belmont Assistant Athletic Director Greg Sage responded to Freeman’s inquiry with a welcoming hand.

Fast forward five years to the opening occurring when Ingram moved on and Freeman tells us about his phone call when Sage officially offered him the job. The thrill of a life-time, took place just a couple of weeks ago.

Radio and Television

Freeman will be handling Belmont’s radio responsibilities which include being the television voice during ESPN+ broadcasts. He says those jobs are similar but they have their differences. The radio ‘art form’ allows for more creativity and style.

John Freeman’s thrill of a life-time begins, Tuesday November 9th when Belmont opens at Ohio.

An emotional win for UNI. 36 hours ago, they learned their teammate, one of their leaders, Grace Boffeli, suffered a season-ending ACL tear.

Two of her roommates, Maya McDermott and Kayba Laube, combined for 58 points in an historic win. Credit @TommyBirch with great questions.
