Bess & French Honored by A-10

Editor: The following is part of a press release by slubillikens.com.

(St. Louis, MO) – Saint Louis junior guard Javon Bess and freshman forward Hasahn French earned Atlantic 10 Conference postseason honors, the league announced today.

Bess was named to the A-10’s five-member All-Defensive team, while French was one of five A-10 freshmen selected to the All-Rookie team. The honors were voted upon by the league’s head coaches.

Bess is the first Billiken since 2013-14 to land on the All-Defensive team. SLU’s top defender who routinely guards the opposition’s best perimeter player, Bess leads all active Billikens with 39 steals. In A-10 games only, he is fourth in the league in rebounding with 8.1 rpg. Offensively, Bess has led the team in scoring all year and enters the A-10 Championship averaging 13.3 ppg.

French has started and appeared in all but one game this season. He averaged 10.2 ppg and 7.3 rpg in conference play. French is second in the A-10 and among the top 15 freshmen nationally with 57 blocked shots, a school season record for a freshman.

The Billikens are the No. 6 seed in the A-10 Men’s Basketball Championship.

An emotional win for UNI. 36 hours ago, they learned their teammate, one of their leaders, Grace Boffeli, suffered a season-ending ACL tear.
