Brian Barone After Making SIUE History

Most Wins in Program History

(St. Louis, MO) – Southern Illinois Edwardsville is having an historic season. Thursday’s win over Eastern Illinois produced a record breaking thirteenth victory. During the Cougars’ fifteen Division 1 seasons they had never reached that total.

Thursday’s 80-62 triumph lifted SIUE’s record to 13-5 (4-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference) and owns the OVC’s best record with 13 conference games left. The Cougars have never held the OVC’s top spot this late in the season.

We talked with the record-setting head coach Brian Barone after the locker-room celebration.

DeeJuan Pruitt led the way for SIUE with a 24 point/thirteen rebound double-double. Joining Pruitt in double figures were Damarco Minor (12), Ray’Sean Taylor (11) and Shamar Wright (14). Here is our conversation with the victorious and grateful Barone.

The Cougars begin a three-game home stand on Saturday. Lindenwood visits First Community Arena. Morehead State and Southern Indiana visit the SIUE campus next week.

Flooding, lightning strikes, etc. have cost @RacersHoops two home games. Had to play 'neutral site' tonight instead of at home and Wednesday's goes from home to away. Tough break for the Racers, and the whole area has been hit with difficulties. #FatherHarry

Murray State's scheduled home game Wednesday vs. Southern Illinois being moved to Banterra Center in Carbondale. #ValleyHoops

Gigantic game for @BradleyUMBB today in Des Moines. If they have a chance to catch @DrakeBulldogsMB, they have to win today. The Bulldogs can basically win the title today. @BustingBrackets breaks it all down. #FatherHarry https://bit.ly/3EGiVgi

Not rooting for any particular @ValleyHoops, but chaos is always fun. If things break certain ways, after today there could be a six-way tie for fifth place.
