‘Captain Morgan’ & Josh Robinson Honored

(St. Louis, MO) – Star players are shining in the Ohio Valley and Missouri Valley Conferences. The two leagues announced their weekly awards on Monday, and outstanding performances were noticed and honored.

The Missouri Valley Conference has started the season with a 26 and 12 record. The OVC is 26 and 25. Who are this week’s award winners?

Ohio Valley Conference

Austin Peay’s Josh Robinson eclipsed the 1,000 point mark, hit a game wining shot and averaged 21 points and over four assists and four rebounds during the Governors’ four games. For all that heavy lifting, the 6’2 junior from St. Louis (St. Mary’s High) has been named the Player of the Week. Robinson leads the OVC in minutes played and is the league’s second leading scorer (22.0 ppg).

Two players share this week’s Newcomer of the Week title. Murray State’s Jonathan Stark averaged 20.3 points over the Racers three games. He also averaged eight rebounds and over five rebounds. Stark is second in the OVC in assists with seven per game.

Tennessee State is starting to gain national notoriety, and helping the Tigers off to a solid start is Jordan Reed. The 6’5 guard scored 23 points in TSU’s win over defending Conference USA champion Middle Tennessee.

Scrappy Christian Ellis is this week’s Freshman of the Week. Southern Illinois Edwardsville’s Ellis averaged 13 points, 4.5 rebounds and three assists in the Cougars two games. Ellis’ energetic style is winning fans at SIUE’s Vadalabene Center. The 6’2 point guard committed just three turnovers in the two Cougar games.

Missouri Valley Conference

Preseason Player of the Year Jeremy Morgan is the Valley’s Player of the Week The 6’5 senior averaged the double-double and was named to the Tire Pros Invitational All Tournament team. Morgan averaged 19 points, ten rebounds and four assists. ‘Captain Morgan’ helped the Panthers to wins over two ‘money conference’ teams.

Aundre Jackson – loyolaramblers.com

Loyola is off to a strong start and McLennan Community College transfer Aundre Jackson is one of the reasons. Has been coming off Porter Moser’s bench and averaged 16 points and four rebounds per game last week. Jackson shot over 83 percent from the field, moving his season percentage to 79.5.

On the national front, Wichita State is now receiving votes in both the AP and USA Today polls. Northern Iowa is receiving votes in the USA Today poll. Tennessee State is receiving recognition on the AP Poll.
