Double – Double – Double

(St. Louis, MO) – Double-doubles are popping up everywhere, particularly in the Ohio Valley Conference. Two OVC players accomplished that feat twice last week and earned league wide honors.

There were dramatic victories and high scoring players as Missouri Valley Conference players picked up their awards.

Ohio Valley Conference

Chris Horton (Austin Peay) and Ryan Martin (Tennessee Tech) both recorded a pair of double-doubles. Horton averaged 19.5 points, 13.5 rebounds and three blocks as the Governors split a two road games. They were his sixth and seventh games of the year with double digits in points and rebounds. For his work Horton was named the OVC’s ‘Player of the Week’. Horton leads the nation in offensive rebounds.

Martin earned his second and third double-doubles of the year as the Golden Eagles (7-2) won their fifth and sixth straight games. Martin received the ‘Newcomer of the Week’ for the second straight week.

‘Freshman of the Week’ honors go to Eastern Illinois’ Casey Teson as the Panthers picked up their first two wins of the season. Teson averaged 13.5 points while hitting nine three-pointers. The former St. Charles Pirate set an EIU freshman record with six treys in the Panther (2-4) win over Indiana State.

Missouri Valley Conference

D. J. Balentine keeps assaulting the MVC scoring charts. The Evansville senior averaged 29 points per game and made two thirds of his shots in the Aces’ (7-1) two victories. He is the NCAA’s active scoring leader with 1,944 points. The senior from Kokomo, Indiana ranks 18th on the MVC all-time list, and is this week’s outstanding player.

Missouri State (2-5) picked up an upset win over Oklahoma State when junior Dequon Miller scored 21 points including the game winning basket with less than eight seconds left. For his effort, the Motlow College transfer was named the Valley ‘Newcomer of the Week.’

Great Lakes Valley Conference

Drury swept through St. Louis with victories over Maryville and UM-St. Louis behind the outstanding play of Cameron Bundy. The senior guard averaged 21 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists. This is Bundy’s first weekly award this year, but the third of his career.
