Emerging OVC Stars

Two New Award Winners

(St. Louis, MO – Two new names appear on the Ohio Valley Conference’s weekly award lists. The league continues to pump out emerging OVC stars. With one weekend left in the regular season the league has rarely seen so many different award winners.

Player of the Week

Tennessee State’s Mark Freeman’s talents were on full display as the Tigers snapped a losing streak. The 5’10 sophomore averaged 25.5 points, TWELVE ASSISTS and 5.5 rebounds during TSU’s two games. The ‘Player of the Week‘ award is Freeman’s first. It was his free throws that clinched the Tigers’ win over Tennessee Tech.

Co-Newcomers

Darian Adams earned his second ‘Newcomer of the Week‘ by helping Jacksonville State to a weekly split. The Troy transfer averaged 21.5 points and 5.5 rebounds as JSU dropped a four-point decision at Belmont and earned a one-point victory at TSU.

Sharing the weekly award with Adams is Southeast Missouri’s Eric Reed. The Howard transfer averaged 19 points, five rebounds and 4.5 assists. SEMO swept Austin Peay and Eastern Kentucky and Reed picked up his first weekly award.

Freshmen of the Week

Morehead State’s Johni Broome earned his EIGHTHFreshman of the Week‘ award, but he is sharing it with another multi-week winner. Eastern Kentucky’s Curt Lewis picked up his second weekly award and  he and teammate Wendell Green have combined to receive six rookie nods.

Broome scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds in MSU’s win over UT Martin and Lewis averaged 13.7 points and 4.3 rebounds during the Colonels’ three-game week (winning two).

These emerging OVC stars are poised to strut there stuff at the OVC Tournament in Evansville.
