@EnthusiAdams is Changing Landscapes
(St. Louis, MO) – There aren’t many people like Mark Adams in college basketball. “The Voice of Mid-Major Basketball” is changing landscapes. The energetic Adams who is an ESPN college broadcaster also runs his own consulting and public speaking business (ENTHUSIADAMS™).
Mark’s consulting work extends well beyond the basketball court. He inspires and helps implement strategic plans for businesses of all sizes.
Adams is helping athletic directors and college coaches figure out how to correct their scheduling limitations. The creator of the #DoMoreWithLess movement is outspoken about the aggressive way the mid-majors need to combat scheduling disadvantages. Teams outside the ‘7 Money Conferences’ need to enhance postseason opportunities by cracking the scheduling code.
In our wide ranging interview we discussed his involvement with a Conference USA’s new scheduling strategy. Mark’s past experiences and love of the college game cause him to be bullish on mid-major college basketball programs. Adams is passionately engaged in that level of college basketball, and believes healthy mid-majors are good for all of college basketball.
How did this love affair begin and how did he become ‘The Voice of the Mid-Majors‘? The 17-year veteran of college coaching is changing landscapes due to his varied backgrounds in the game and his love for helping other people succeed in life.
Time in the Valley
Before he was changing landscapes nationally, Adams was promoting, among other things, the Missouri Valley Conference. For many years Mark was perhaps the Valley’s biggest advocate. He told me his time in the MVC was truly a high light in his broadcasting career.
Coaching Friends
While Adams is working at changing landscapes, he has cultivated deep friendships with numerous college coaches. His relationship with former Middle Tennessee State coach Kermit Davis, in part opened the door for Adams’ involvement C-USA’s scheduling changes. Georgia State’s Ron Hunter had two special interactions with the personable Adams. One of his most memorable interviews was with now retired Austin Peay head coach Dave Loos during the 2017 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.
In Part Two of our interview, Adams discusses the innovative plans he helped craft with Conference USA coaches and SIDs to enhance that league’s ability to strengthen its postseason opportunities.
