Explosive Scoring Award Winners

MVC Weekly Stars

(St. Louis, MO) – Missouri Valley Conference weekly award winners did some explosive scoring. During the final portion of the season new players are still emerging.

While players like Missouri State’s Lacy Stokes and Drake’s Kevin Overton continue to shine and influence their respective categories. The closing conference race will greatly influence the final two weeks’ award winners and the season-ending honors.

Explosive Scoring Players of the Week

Southern Illinois’ Laniah Randle produced a near historic week. The Salukis split two games and Randle piled up two explosive scoring games. Randle scored 32 points during a loss and 36 in a victory. The ‘Player of the Week’ award is Randle’s second this year. That 36-point performance ties for the Valley’s best this season.

Randle is tied with Drake’s Katie Dinnebier in the conference scoring race (19.0 points per game).

Illinois State’s Johnny Kinziger sparked the Redbirds to an upset victory over then 23rd ranked Indiana State. Kinziger scored 31 points during the upset and followed that performance with 18 points and seven assists as ISU defeated Evansville. The two-game sweep of the Indiana-based teams helped propel Kinziger to the ‘Player of the Week’ award.

Newcomers

Missouri State swept its two games and Stokes was a big reason for its success. The ‘Newcomer of the Week’ award is Stokes’ seventh such award. She averaged sixteen points, four rebounds and three steals as the Lady Bears (17-6, 11-3) won two games. Stokes averages 4.6 assists per game and is second to Drake’s Dinnebier (6.7 per game).

Kinziger’s teammate Myles Foster is the men’s ‘Newcomer of the Week’. During Illinois State’s big win over nationally ranked Indiana State, the Monmouth transfer recorded a double-double with 19 points and twelve rebounds. The 6’7 forward added twenty points and eight rebounds during the team’s win over Evansville. Foster is the Valley’s third leading rebounder (7.5 per game).

Drake’s Kevin Overton put together another big week. He scored 15 points against Evansville and 23 against Bradley. Overton’s fourth ‘Freshman of the Week’ award is his second in the last three weeks.

Playing the point at @UEAthletics_MBB is @EKUHoops transfer Tayshawn Comer. The @ValleyHoops squad opens its season on Tuesday, but we wanted to get to know Comer now. Here is our conversation. #ValleyRunsDeep #NCAAHoops

Graphic from @NateSilver538. As a 'news watcher' this is one of the most fascinating elections to watch. I don't truly like either candidate, so that makes it less exciting, but as a 'news oriented' person, this is incredible theater.
