Missouri Valley
Final Non-Conference Weekly Award Winners
The Real Games Begin!
(St. Louis, MO) – In their final tune ups for the real games, Ohio Valley and Missouri Valley Conference players put up some special performances. As the conference season begins this week, several players have made their final non-conference statements. Monday the real games begin.
Ohio Valley Conference
A shortened week didn’t keep OVC players from accomplishing big things. Two Belmont Bruins are part of the OVC’s weekly awards honors. While Belmont was defeating Western Kentucky, point guard Grayson Murphy recorded his second double-double of the season. The 6’2 sophomore scored eleven points and grabbed eleven rebounds and dished out seven assists during the 79-62 victory.
This week’s ‘Player of the Week‘ leads the OVC in assists (5.7) and is third in rebounding. His 8.2 caroms per game average is the highest of any point guard in the nation. He ranks 33rd or better nationally in assists, steals and assist-turnover ratio. Murphy is the third Bruin this season to earn the top weekly honor.
Murphy’s teammate Tyler Scanlon is this week’s ‘Newcomer of the Week‘. The 6’7 grad-transfer scored 18 points in the Belmont victory over the Hilltoppers.
Ta’Lon Cooper became the first Morehead State weekly award winner. The 6’7 was a perfect seven for seven in the Eagles’ dominating win over Alice Lloyd. Cooper finished with 20 points and six assists. He is this week’s ‘Freshman of the Week‘.
Missouri Valley Conference
The real games begin for the Valley tonight, but last week there were some great performances.
Shorthanded Bradley knocked off Toledo as guard Darrell Brown answered the question ‘What can Brown do for you?’ quite well. The senior scored a season-high 29 points while the team played with seven scholarship players and an eight man roster. His 29-point performance marked his 17th time to reach the 20-point mark and this week’s ‘Player of the Week‘ largest output since scoring 29 agains Northern Iowa in February of 2019.
Since this was the only Valley game played since the last weekly awards were announced, we unilaterally decided this ‘Player of the Week‘.
