(Boston, MA) – The 2020-21 Lefty Driesell Award finalists were announced on Thursday.

The Lefty Driesell Award, given annually to the top defensive player in Division I basketball, is named in honor of the legendary former coach.

Driesell won 786 games in 41 years at Davidson, Maryland, James Madison and Georgia State. He ranks eighth on the NCAA career Division I coaches victories list and his teams at each stop were known for playing tenacious defense.

Driesell also led Davidson, Georgia State and James Madison to the NCAA tournament, making him one of three coaches to reach the NCAAs with four different programs. His teams won a total of 16 regular season championships and six tournament championships.

The recipient of the 2021 award will be announced on April 1.

Editor: Loyola Chicago’s Lucas Williamson and Aher Uguak, Belmont’s Grayson Murphy, Missouri’s Dru Smith (formerly of Evansville) and Kansas City’s Bradon McKissic (Saint Louis U High School) are five of the 30 finalists.

An emotional win for UNI. 36 hours ago, they learned their teammate, one of their leaders, Grace Boffeli, suffered a season-ending ACL tear.

Two of her roommates, Maya McDermott and Kayba Laube, combined for 58 points in an historic win. Credit @TommyBirch with great questions.
