Bradley won two of their first three games and to no one’s surprise, Elijah Childs was outstanding. The 6’8 senior is the Valley’s ‘Player of the Week‘. Childs averaged 15.7 points and 7.7 rebounds during the Xavier Invitational and was named to the ‘All Tournament Team’. The weekly award is Childs’ third, but ironically the first since his sophomore year.

Illinois State split its weekend games. Scoring 15 points against Ohio State and finishing with 21 against UMASS Lowell was this week’s ‘Newcomer of the Week‘, Josiah Strong. The Iowa Western College transfer connected on six of thirteen shots from deep and made all eight of his free-throw attempts.

Ohio Valley Conference

Preseason player of the year Terry Taylor is this season’s first ‘Player of the Week’. The Austin Peay senior averaged 22.7 points and 12.7 rebounds during the Governors’ three games (2-1). Taylor was named to the All Tournament team of the weekend’s Gulf Coast Showcase.

Newcomer of the Week‘ Belmont’s Luke Smith sparked the Bruins to three weekend victories. The College of the South transfer averaged 18 points while sinking nine three-point attempts and picking up ten steals. The 6’ junior was named the Paradise Jam’s Most Outstanding Player.

Johni Broome is the OVC’s first ‘Freshman of the Week‘. The 6’10 Morehead State rookie averaged 14 points and 7.7 rebounds during the Eagles’ first three games. Broome scored 25 points his first collegiate contest.

Playing the point at @UEAthletics_MBB is @EKUHoops transfer Tayshawn Comer. The @ValleyHoops squad opens its season on Tuesday, but we wanted to get to know Comer now. Here is our conversation. #ValleyRunsDeep #NCAAHoops

Graphic from @NateSilver538. As a 'news watcher' this is one of the most fascinating elections to watch. I don't truly like either candidate, so that makes it less exciting, but as a 'news oriented' person, this is incredible theater.
