Former Freshman Stars Leading the Way

(Kansas City, MO) – Outstanding individual performances continue to roll out for Ohio Valley and Missouri Valley Conference players. Former freshman stars Terry Taylor and Cameron Krutwig are shunning the ‘sophomore slump’. While teams are rounding into shape and coaches are figuring out their playing rotations, some individuals have been outstanding.

Ohio Valley Conference

Terry Taylor

Double-doubles are just so normal for Terry Taylor. The Austin Peay forward recorded three of them last week while averaging 19.7 points and 13 rebounds per game. The reigning ‘Freshman of the Year‘ is this week’s OVC ‘Player of the Week‘. For his hard work he was also named to the Jersey Mike’s Jamaica Classic all-tournament team. Taylor leads the OVC in rebounding and is second in scoring.

Southeast Missouri won three games last week and transfer Skyler Hogan was a key reason. The 6’5 junior racked up three double-digit scoring performances and averaged 13.7 points and 5.3 rebounds for the week. Hogan is the OVC’s ‘Newcomer of the Week‘. SEMO is 3-2.

Belmont’s three freshmen starters have been outstanding and center Nick Muszynski had another big week. The Bruins (3-0) defeated Middle Tennessee and Lipscomb and Muszynski averaged 17 points, six rebounds, four blocks and three assists in the wins. This week’s ‘Freshman of the Week‘ has set Belmont D1 records for points and blocks in a player’s first three collegiate games.

Speaking of reigning ‘Freshman of the Year‘ players, Loyola’s Cameron Krutwig nearly matched Taylor in averaging double-doubles. The 6’9 center sparked the Ramblers to a pair of wins while averaging 18.5 points and nine rebounds. Playing at a slimmed down 255 pounds, the Algonquin, Illinois native is this week’s MVC ‘Player of the Week‘.

Northern Iowa freshman A.J. Green exploded for two, 20-point games (21 and 23). UNI (2-2) split their two games and Green, this week’s ‘Newcomer of the Week‘ is averaging 19.3 points over the Panthers’ first four contests.
