Good Opening Night for SLU
Winning With Glimpses
(St. Louis, MO) – Saint Louis U will be a very good basketball team. Monday against Murray State, they were good enough to win relatively easily, while only showing glimpses of their potential. The 91-68 final revealed some good things about this year’s team. It was a good opening night
Yuri Collins is still amazing. Javonte Perkins isn’t 100% yet, but looks really good. Javon Pickett is just what the doctor ordered at the power forward position and the Billikens are hungry to be really good.
I believe they will win the Atlantic Ten Conference and will find their way into the national top 25 rankings. They have ample opportunities to play upper-level competition and they have most of the elements needed to be a top-flight team.
SLU defeated a talented, but not yet game-ready Murray State team. They were winning with glimpses.
Here are coach Travis Ford’s post-game, opening comments.
Perkins (21) and Gibson Jimerson (20) led the team in scoring. Collins handed out 14 assists and never committed a turnover! Pickett collected his first Billiken double-double, scoring 13 points and collecting 13 rebounds. SLU dominated the glass and allowed just .371 of the Racers’ shots to find the twine.
Another Missouri Valley Conference team visits Chaifetz Arena Saturday. The 1-0 Evansville Purple Aces tip it with the Bills at 6 p.m.
Do Good
