Governors Draw the Jayhawks
(St. Louis, MO) – Dear Austin Peay fans, we have good news and we have bad news. The good news, is you don’t have to play in a ‘First Four’ game in the NCAA tournament. The bad news, is you drew the Kansas Jayhawks in the opening round.
Yes, those Kansas Jayhawks.
The, “basketball was invented there” Kansas Jayhawks. KU has the third most wins in college basketball history. They’ve won every Big 12 regular season title since 2005. They are 30-4 this year and the number one overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Austin Peay has them right where they want them! The Governors were underdogs all through the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament and came out on top. Four upsets in a row, six straight wins and the glass slipper fits quite nicely thank you.
Kansas is making their 45th appearance in the ‘Big Dance’ and own 28 Sweet 16 appearances. With stars like Perry Ellis, Wayne Selden Junior, Frank Mason III and Devonte Graham, the Hawks might be too much for the Govs, but this K-U team will meet an inspired group from Clarksville.
Chris Horton (my Player of the Year in the OVC) is an inspirational player, a great rebounder and the week off will help his gimpy ankle recover. Young guards Josh Robinson and Jared Savage were outstanding during the Music City Madness run and should be full of confidence for their first ever NCAA Tournament game.
APSU hasn’t played in the National Tournament since 2008 and haven’t won a game in the event since 1987. Their last post season win was in the opening round of the 2004 National Invitation Tournament.
