Governors Miracle Run Comes to an End
(St. Louis, MO) – The six game winning streak is over, but the nation is aware of the heart and passion of the Austin Peay Governors. Top seeded Kansas defeated APSU 105 to 79. The Governors won two straight to earn a place at the Ohio Valley Conference tournament. Then Dave Loos’ team won four games in four days to win the championship of Music City Madness.
But Kansas was just too good on Thursday. The Jayhawks led by 20 at the half and never looked back.
With the nation rooting for the best Cinderella story in college basketball, Kansas hung 100 on the Govs. Austin Peay played inspired basketball in the OVC tournament, as they dedicated their tournament to Loos’ granddaughter Rhyan who is battling a rare form of pediatric cancer. Loos and members of his family made appearances on virtually every national media outlet after the tournament championship in Nashville. People across the nation have been inspired by Rhyan’s courage and the togetherness of the Loos family.
They finish the season with a record of 18 and 18. Each of the players in the postgame press conference shared their pride and excitement over the recent run of success.
St. Mary’s graduate Josh Robinson led the Governors with 24 points. Senior Chris Horton recorded his 25th double-double (14 points & ten rebounds).
As the season ends, so does Coach Loos’ contract. He has repeatedly said he wouldn’t think about a future contract until after the season. Loss has won 409 games in 26 years at APSU, and owns 491 in 30 years overall. Many thought the season end two weeks ago, but the Miracle on 4th Street, postponed any contract talks.
