Hinson Gets an Extension

(St. Louis, MO) – Southern Illinois head coach Barry Hinson has signed a two-year extension to remain with the Salukis through the 2019-20 season. SIU (5-5) was 22-10 last season and Hinson was named the Missouri Valley Conference ‘Coach of the Year’.

Hinson is 67-72 in Carbondale and 272-212 overall.

Numerous media reports are announcing this extension, though there is nothing official being announced by the university website.

The ‘Daily Egyptian’ (SIU’s student newspaper) says Hinson signed the deal in September. The paper says Hinson earns $350,000 annually.

Hinson was asked about the extension on Tuesday and the fifth year Saluki head coach told siusalukis.com he is working at his dream job.

“Everyone says they want a dream job and I’ve got my dream job. I really, really like being here and love being a part of this community,” said Hinson. “I love being a part of this region. This is the place for me to coach. I’m extremely excited that I get to continue to do that.”

Hinson and the Salukis host Saint Louis University Wednesday night at SIU Arena. The two regional rivals tip at 7 pm and can be seen on ‘The Valley on ESPN3’.

Flooding, lightning strikes, etc. have cost @RacersHoops two home games. Had to play 'neutral site' tonight instead of at home and Wednesday's goes from home to away. Tough break for the Racers, and the whole area has been hit with difficulties. #FatherHarry

Murray State's scheduled home game Wednesday vs. Southern Illinois being moved to Banterra Center in Carbondale. #ValleyHoops

Gigantic game for @BradleyUMBB today in Des Moines. If they have a chance to catch @DrakeBulldogsMB, they have to win today. The Bulldogs can basically win the title today. @BustingBrackets breaks it all down. #FatherHarry https://bit.ly/3EGiVgi

Not rooting for any particular @ValleyHoops, but chaos is always fun. If things break certain ways, after today there could be a six-way tie for fifth place.
