Impressive “Valley” Players
(St. Louis, MO) – Top teams have top players and this week’s “Valley All-Stars” are from the best teams in the Missouri Valley, Ohio Valley and Great Lakes Valley Conferences.
Indiana State (8-8)(4-0) guard Devonte Brown was named the MVC’s player of the week for averaging 19 points over the Sycamore’s two victories, including a game winning three-pointer on Saturday. The junior guard catapulted ISU into a first place tie with Wichita State (14-2)(4-0).
Head Coach Greg Lansing says Brown attempted the game winner on his own initiative.
Two players share the OVC’s title this week. East Division leader Eastern Kentucky (10-5)(2-0) guard Corey Walden and West Division co-leader Murray State (13-4)(3-0) forward Jarvis Williams share this week’s award.
Walden averaged 22 points, five rebounds and three assists and Williams averaged 20.5 and 10 rebounds. Eastern has won four straight and Murray has won 11 in-a-row. It is the second time this year these seniors have earned the award.
The GLVC’s University of Indianapolis has won 13 straight games and are a top 10 Division 2 team, and junior guard Lucas Barker received the league’s player of the week award. Barker AVERAGED 11.5 points, 12 assists and seven rebounds in the Greyhounds’ two conference wins. UIndy is off to its best start in 18 years.
