Jared White – NAIA All-American Honorable Mention

ST. LOUIS — Junior guard Jared White earned NAIA Honorable Mention All-American honors for his standout performance on the hardwood this past season, the NAIA announced Thursday afternoon. In addtion, junior Chris Buzzell was also selected as a 2016 NAIA Men’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete.
White, a junior from DeSoto, averaged 15.1 points per game to lead the Spartans. The 6-2 guard played in MBU’s final 19 games, making 12 starts, and added a huge scoring punch to the Spartan offense. White led MBU in scoring nine different times, while scoring in double figures in all but two games. He scored a season-high 24 points against Hannibal-LaGrange on Feb. 16 and also averaged 5.4 rebounds per contest.
The junior came through in the clutch several times during the season, especially during the biggest games. White scored 21 points in the team’s upset of No. 25 William Woods, added 19 in a win over No. 9 Freed-Hardeman and hit big free throws down the stretch in the Spartans victory over No. 5 Columbia.
The NAIA named Buzzell a 2016 Scholar-Athlete for maintaining a minimum 3.5 GPA throughout his first three years at Missouri Baptist. The junior guard also excelled on the court, averaging 11 points per game while playing in all 31 games (30 starts). Buzzell also shot the ball at a 45.1 percent clip from 3-point range.
