La Salle & A-10 Impressing
Kansas City – So what is ‘mid-major’ about the Atlantic 10 Conference? If winning NCAA Tournament games is the standard, the best league in the nation is the A-10. Through the first round of this year’s ‘shining moment series’ the conference has won all six of its tournament games.
After La Salle’s 63 – 61 win over Kansas State I asked Head Coach Dr. John Giannini if the nation was getting a good look at a very talented league? Giannini has won over 100 games in three different programs and led the Explorers to a third place tie in this year’s A-10 race.
First he turned the answer over to Senior Ramon Galloway who said the good doctor has been telling the players all season that the A-10 plays great basketball.
Coach Giannini elaborated on the point, saying Saint Louis University and Butler could even be ‘Final Four’ teams. Like many of us, he has a disdain for the annililation of so many great basketball conferences.
Next up for the Atlantic 10 will be second round games between Saint Louis U & Oregon; La Salle & Mississippi; VCU & Michigan; Butler & Marquette and Temple & Indiana. They may lose all five games, but they have already made their mark in the 2013 Dance.
