Lyndal Scranton’s Take on Cuonzo Martin

Springfield Daily Citizen Reporter

(St. Louis, MO) – Lyndal Scranton has covered Missouri State sports since the late 1970’s and knows the history of the program and the current heartbeat of Bears’ athletics. We wanted to know Lyndal Scranton‘s take on Cuonzo Martin and the potential return of the Bears’ former coach.

As we outlined in our previous story, Martin has had significant success during his previous time in Springfield and at his subsequent stops at Tennessee, California and Missouri.

Scranton covered the Bears for the Springfield News Leader during those days and says that Martin’s teams played ‘tough, defensive-minded’ basketball. During Martin’s three years at the MO State helm, the Bears won a CIT championship and the program’s only Missouri Valley Conference championship.

Scranton says the fan reaction has been mixed, but there has been a lot of response, showing the fan base cares about this hire. He believes this hiring decision is a critical one for Missouri State Director of Athletics Kyle Moats.

Here is our conversation and Lyndal Scranton’s take on Cuonzo Martin.

The Martin signing could come as early as this week. We’re hearing the UIC official hiring of Rob Ehsan could come next Monday.

Nice win for @ValpoBasketball today. Triple my McNair at the buzzer for the win. One win away from tying last year's total & first true road win this year. @RogerPowellJr is building it brick by brick.

The @OVCSports men's basketball season is six games old and the home teams @MSUEaglesMBB @LRTrojans @USI_Basketball @SEMOMBB & @WIUMBB won five of them. Those 5 are 1-0. @TTU_Basketball lost at Western and won at @LUMensBball and is 1-1. Five teams are 0-1.
