MBU – Hernandez is POY & Brock Coach of the Year

Woodfall, Robinson & Littles Also Honored

(St. Louis, MO) – The American Midwest Conference (AMC) has announced the members of the 2018-19 Men’s Basketball All-Conference team, as well as the season awards.

Pablo Hernandez was named Player of the Year, after leading Missouri Baptist to the AMC regular-season title and a top-five national rankings. Hernandez led the team with a 14.9 points per game average and was second on the team with a 5.4 rebounds per game average. Hernandez shot an impressive 52.7-percent (187-of-355) from the field and 35.9-percent (23-of-64) from behind the 3-point arc. Hernandez tallied 10-or-more-points in all but six games this season.

Matt Brock of Missouri Baptist was voted at AMC Coach of the Year for the first time in his career. Brock led the Spartans to a 27-3 regular-season title, 19-3 conference record and put Missouri Baptist in a position to nab a No. 1-seed at the NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball National Championship.

AMC Newcomer of the Year honors went to David Johnson Jr. Johnson Jr. led the William Woods Owls to a tournament No. 4-seed by scoring 15.8 points per game and shooting 42.8-percent (161-of-376) from the field. He also led the team and ranked No. 21 in the NAIA in both blocks per game (1.4) and total blocks (43).

The Defensive Player of the Year is Tyrone Hueitt Jr. from Hannibal-LaGrange. Hueitt Jr. was fifth in the entire NAIA in blocks per game (2.3) and sixth in the nation in total blocks (68). In addition, he was in the top-20 nationally in total rebounds per game (16th, 8.6), defensive rebounds per game (18th, 6.1) and total rebounds (20th, 252). He also was the catalyst on one of the best defensive teams in the nation.

Eutectics freshman RJ Wright took home the AMC Freshman of the Year award. Wright averaged 19.3 points per game for St. Louis Pharmacy, which was second in the AMC. Wright ranked No. 16 in the NAIA in points per game, No. 22 in total scoring (561).
