Mike Reis is Signing Off – Part One
Hall of Famer is Stepping Back
(St. Louis, MO) – After more than four decades of broadcasting Southern Illinois sporting events, Mike Reis is signing off. The Hall of Famer has decided to step back from the daily grind of announcing Saluki sporting events and the response has been overwhelming.
Saluki fans and the fans of the Missouri Valley Conference have poured on to social media to say ‘thank you’ to the member of many halls of fame. The former recipient of the Valley’s ‘John Sanders Courage Award’ was kind enough to sit down and speak to me for this edition of Voices of the Valley.
This is Part One of a two-part interview with our respected friend. In this first session, Mike tells us the ‘why’ behind his decision to step away, he bragged on a number of his broadcast partners and compared the Rich Herrin era with the early 2000’s run of excellence.
Reis calls Darren Brooks the best overall player he watched. He also highlights former Salukis, Kent Williams, Randall Falker and Mike Glenn as other great players.
Part Two will be released soon. We discuss other memories, some of his broadcasting friends and where we could see him turn up next!
