Morehead State ‘Going to the Ship’

(Chicago, IL) – One of the hottest teams in college basketball, Morehead State is heading to the championship round of the College Basketball Invitiational. The Eagles won their third straight game and tenth in their last 11 outings, in Wednesday’s semifinal game with Ohio.

Unknown-677 to 72 was the final of the game played in Athens, Ohio, but there were 11 ties and 19 lead changes in the spirited game played by schools separated by about 150 miles.

Four Eagles reached double figures, but it was the free throw shooting that led the Eagles to the championship round. Head Coach Sean Woods’ team hit 20 of 22 attempts. Xavier Moon led the Eagles in scoring with 18 points. He was eight for eight from the charity stripe. Corban Collins finished with 14 points, and he buried two huge momentum changing 3’s late in the contest.

Ohio (23-12) had a 13 win improvement over last season. Treg Setty (20) and Jaaron Simmons (21) were the leading scorers for the Bobcats. Simmons handed out seven assists, giving him a MAC and Ohio single season record of 275.

Morehead (22-12) will play the winner of tonight’s Nevada/Vermont game in the best-of-three championship round. The championship round begins Monday night.

Ohio Valley Conference teams are now 4 and 4 in postseason play. Morehead State 4 and 2 in three entries in the CBI.
