Update: MSU’s Woods Suspension

(St. Louis, MO) – Multiple media outlets are reporting the suspension of Morehead State head coach Sean Woods. Lexington, Kentucky CBS affiliate WKYT, the Lexington Herald and the Quad City Times are all quoting Morehead State officials on this subject. The comments are not found on msueagles.com website.

Here is the quote.

“Resulting from complaints received, the institution has begun an investigation involving the head basketball coach. While we continue through the formal process, we believe it is prudent to suspend the coach until the investigation is finished,” said Brian Hutchinson, director of athletics. “Assistant Coach Preston Spradlin will serve as head coach in the interim until the investigation is completed. We have full confidence in Preston and his ability to lead our student-athletes both on and off the court. Since this is an ongoing process, we will be unable to comment further until this comes to a conclusion.”

MSU has split its first four games and Woods who signed an extension in the offseason, owns a 77-65 record at Morehead. Spradlin came to the Eagle program three years ago, and was recently named to the National Basketball Coaches Association (NABC) 2016 Under Armour 30-Under-30-Team, which recognizes 30 men’s basketball coaches across the country that are under the age of 30. Prior to his time under Woods, Spradlin worked under John Calipari at Kentucky.

Valley Hoops Insider will update this story as information becomes available.

New Info:  Kennedy Hardman (ABC 36 Lexington) reports “Sources tell me that #MSU players are petitioning #NCAA w/ arguments of mistreatment and a hostile environment as reasons to transfer and be able to play immediately. Morehead State has named Preston Spradlin as the intern HC. Sean Woods is suspended with pay.”
