Murray State Is Still Alive

(Indianapolis, IN) – Louisville and Kentucky aren’t the only Kentucky based universities vying for a championship. Murray State’s run in the College Insider.com Tournament continues. Thursday the Racers (21-11) knocked off Towson 85-73.

Cameron Payne – goracers.com

Once again, it was freshman Cameron Payne leading the way. The Bartlett, Tennessee native was one of four Racers that scored in double figures. The Ohio Valley Conference’s ‘Freshman of the Year,’ Payne had 24, Jarvis Williams 18, Dexter Fields 15 and Jonathan Fairell scored 13 and grabbed a team leading 10 rebounds. Payne hauled in seven boards and handed out seven assists, while stealing five.

The Tigers finish the season with a record 25-11. Murray State has won three straight games and eight of their last ten.  Their two losses were both by three points and one of those in overtime. MSU has won twelve consecutive home games and host Pacific on Tuesday in the CIT Semi-finals.

Since Steve Prohm has become the head coach, the Racers are 37-6 at home, including a 15-1 mark this season.

If the OVC’s West Division Champions defeat Pacific on Tuesday, they would play in the CIT championship game on Thursday. Tennessee State is the last Ohio Valley Conference team to reach the CIT semi-finals. The Tigers turned the trick in 2011 falling to Iona.  Pacific made it to the finals in 2010, losing to Cuonzo Martin’s Missouri State Bears.
