MVC & OVC – Henson All-Americans

(St. Louis, MO) – Missouri Valley and Ohio Valley Conference players have been named to the Lou Henson All-American team. The Henson awards honor Henson, the former Illinois and New Mexico State coach who won 775 games in 41 seasons. Henson is the winningest coach in Illinois basketball history with 423 victories. He is also the all-time winningest coach in New Mexico State history with 289 victories, is one of only 11 coaches to take two different schools to the NCAA Final Four.
MVC Players
Missouri Valley Conference ‘Player of the Year‘ A.J. Green (Northern Iowa), Bradley’s Elijah Childs and Loyola’s Cameron Krutwig were named to the 40-man roster. Green led the Valley in scoring and the Panthers to a league title, while Childs sparked the Braves to an Arch Madness championship. Krutwig and Green were named to the Valley’s all-conference team. Childs was a second-teamer.
OVC Players
Ohio Valley Conference ‘Player of the Year‘ Terry Taylor, Belmont’s Adam Kunkel and Murray State’s Tevin Brown were named to the squad. Austin Peay’s Taylor led the OVC in scoring. Brown’s Racer squad tied Belmont for the regular season title, while Kunkel’s Bruins won the postseason tournament.
Player of the Year
William & Mary’s William Knight was the Henson – ‘Player of the Year‘. Knight, who was recently named to the Lefty Driesell Defensive All-America team, became just the second player in history to be named both the Colonial Athletic Association Player and Defensive Player of the Year. He also became just the fourth player in CAA history and the first since 1989 to average 20 points and 10 rebounds per game. He was one of only two players in college basketball to accomplish that this season.
