MVC/OVC Pre-Christmas All-Stars
Bond Setting New Marks
(St. Louis, MO) – The final pre-Christmas all-stars were announced by the Missouri Valley and Ohio Valley Conferences. Northern Iowa’s Leon Bond III produced the highest scoring game of the MVC season and Lindenwood’s Jadis Jones continues to be the OVC’s top rookie.
Players of the Week
Bond scored a Valley-best 37 points during UNI’s win over Montana. That total was the third best in Panther history and this week’s ‘Player of the Week’ finished the week with 17 points in UNI’s loss to Washington State. Bond is third in the Valley (.602) in field goal percentage.
Southeast Missouri swept its first two games in league play and Teddy Washington Jr was a leading man in that success. The 6’2 senior averaged 22.5 points and 8.5 rebounds as the Redhawks defeated Eastern Illinois and Southern Illinois Edwardsville. This week’s ‘Player of the Week’ is the OVC’s third leading scorer.
Pre-Christmas All-Stars Newcomers
Indiana State’s Samage Teel earned his third ‘Newcomer of the Week’ award. The Sycamore senior sparked INS to a pair of wins, including a Valley leading second win. Teel made 71 percent of his shots and averaged 19 points per game, including a 26-point performance against Murray State.
Washington is also the OVC ‘Newcomer of the Week’. The Texas A&M Corpus Christi transfer recorded a double-double against EIU and scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds against SIUE. Washington is the league’s sixth leading rebounder.
Freshmen of the Week
Illinois State’s Jack Daugherty hit four three-pointers in both of the Redbirds’ games. The 6’8 freshman picked up some extra minutes during Sunday’s game when starter Johnny Kinziger went down with an injury. This week’s ‘Freshman of the Week’ has recorded five games with that many triples which is twentieth nationally.
For the fourth time this season, Jadis Jones is the OVC’s ‘Freshman of the Week’. The 6’5 freshman averaged 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds as the Lions split their first two conference games. His season-best 17 point, eight rebound performance sparked Lindenwood’s first-ever win over Western Illinois.
The pre-Christmas all-stars will be participating in league play the rest of the season.
