MVC/OVC Weekly Award Winners

Week Three Winners

(St. Louis, MO) – There are five weekly award winners between the Missouri Valley and Ohio Valley Conferences. During the first three weeks of the season there is yet to be a repeat winner for any of those weekly awards.

This looks to be the most wide open OVC race ever and the MVC has great parity among its teams and all-conference-type of players.

Ohio Valley Conference

Alex Gross transferred from an NAIA program to Morehead State and is showing that he can compete in college basketball’s highest levels. The 6’10 forward averaged a double-double (14 ppg & ten rebounds) and earned his second such game of the young season against Kentucky State. This week’s Player of the Week is the OVC’s third leading rebounder.

Bryant transfer Chris Childs scored a season-high 23 points including a game-winning, overtime basket against Idaho State. This week’s Newcomer of the Week is averaging 16 points per game and is becoming a floor leader on the Lindenwood (3-5) program.

Eastern Illinois freshman Kyle Carlesimo is growing into his Panther role. The 6’2 guard averaged ten points, five rebounds and 2.7 assists last week and is the OVC’s Freshman of the Week. Carlesimo made seven three-pointers during EIU’s three games.

Missouri Valley Conference

Preseason all-Valley forward Marcus Domask had a spectacular week. The 6’6 forward scored a career-high 32 point points during an overtime win and scored 21 points in the Salukis’ other game. This week’s Player of the Week has now topped the career 1,000 point mark (1,179).

Illinois Chicago won all three of its games last week and Tre Anderson was a major contributor to that on-court success. The 6-1 graduate-student scored 18, 17 and 25 points during the Flames’ victories. This week’s Newcomer of the Week also averaged five rebounds and 5.3 assists.

MVC teams begin conference play this week.
