MVC Tenth Week Awards

Races Taking Shape

(St. Louis, MO) – Tucker DeVries and Jailyn Banks are asserting themselves as favorites for season-ending awards. During the tenth week of the season the men’s reigning ‘Player of the Year’ is also this week’s ‘Player of the Week’ and Banks is dominating the weekly freshman awards.

Every men’s tenth week award winner picked up his second weekly honor.

Tenth Week Top Players

DeVries exploded for 63 points during Drake’s two victories. This week’s men’s ‘Player of the Week’ is the Valley’s second leading scorer and is closing in on 1,500 career points. His 34-point performance at Southern Illinois was his third thirty-point achievement this season. DeVries is the league’s tenth leading rebounder (6.2 per game) and is eleventh in assists (3.7).

Illinois State’s DeAnna Wilson earned her second ‘Player of the Week’ award by averaging twenty-points and nine rebounds during the Redbirds two victories. She scored 26 points and grabbed eleven rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. The 26 points she scored tied her single-game career high.

Newcomers Making a Mark

First-time weekly award winner Ava Learn is the women’s ‘Newcomer of the Week’. The Murray State junior averaged eleven points and 7.5 rebounds for the red hot Racers. Murray State has won eleven straight games and are tied with Belmont for the Valley’s top spot.

Indiana State’s Ryan Conwell scored 17 and 15 points during the Sycamores’ split of last week’s games. The South Florida transfer is the men’s ‘Newcomer of the Week’ for making three triples in each game and grabbing a total of nine rebounds. Conwell is the MVC’s tenth leading scorer (15.3 ppg).

Tenth Week Rookies

Belmont’s Jailyn Banks has claimed half of the Valley’s ten, ‘Freshman of the Week’ awards. Her overall floor game is outstanding. Last week she helped the Bruins to their fourth and fifth straight wins by averaging eleven points, 4.5 assists, three rebounds and two steals. Banks’ steal and game-winning four-point-play carried Belmont to one of their two road wins.

Valparaiso’s Cooper Schweiger recorded his first collegiate double-double during the Beacons’ first conference win. The Valpo forward scored 16 points and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds as the team ended a long losing streak. This week’s ‘Freshman of the Week’ averaged 12.5 points and ten boards for the week.
