MVC Weekly Awards

Sycamore Newcomers Shine

(St. Louis, MO) – One week of regular season games remain and two of the MVC weekly awards were nabbed by Indiana State newcomers. Kiley Bess and Ryan Conwell stood out amongst the Missouri Valley Conference’s first year players.

League voters are beginning to fill out their ballots for end of year honors, and late season achievements matter.

Top Players

MVC leading rebounder Anna Miller continues to lead the league in double-doubles. The Drake junior added her eleventh and twelfth ‘twin-killings’ last week while averaging twenty points and 15.5 rebounds. She grabbed a career high 19 rebounds in one contest and is the Valley’s ‘Player of the Week‘. Nine of her double-doubles have come during league play.

Miller joins Grace Berg and Katie Dinnebier as Drake players to have claimed the Valley’s top weekly honor.

Duke Deen broke a long standing Bradley record and is the men’s ‘Player of the Week‘. Deen averaged twenty-three points during the Braves’ two games, including a 35-point night against Missouri State. During that contest he set a new Bradley record making nine three-pointers.

Sycamore Standouts

Kiley Bess played a key role in Indiana State’s undefeated week. Bess averaged 15 points and nine rebounds and logged her first-ever double-double. The Sycamores defeated Evansville and Bradley and Bess is the ‘Newcomer of the Week‘.

Ryan Conwell played a key role in Indiana State’s undefeated week. During a bounce-back week for the first place Sycamores, Conwell averaged 16.5 points and nine rebounds in the two ISU victories. He recorded a double-double during a win over Illinois Chicago. This is Conwell’s fourth ‘Newcomer of the Week‘ award. Teammate Isaiah Swope has earned two MVC weekly awards.

Outstanding Freshman

Bradley’s Halli Poock now has three ‘Freshman of the Week‘ awards. The Bradley rookie averaged 19 points and four rebounds during the Braves’ two games. She scored 27 against Bess’ Sycamores. Belmont’s Jailyn Banks has earned six MVC weekly awards.

The emergence of freshman Johnny Kinziger has made Illinois State a more dangerous team. The Wisconsin native earned his second ‘Freshman of the Week‘ award for averaging 15.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and three assists as the Redbirds split their two games. Kinziger was last week’s ‘Player of the Week‘.

Playing the point at @UEAthletics_MBB is @EKUHoops transfer Tayshawn Comer. The @ValleyHoops squad opens its season on Tuesday, but we wanted to get to know Comer now. Here is our conversation. #ValleyRunsDeep #NCAAHoops

Graphic from @NateSilver538. As a 'news watcher' this is one of the most fascinating elections to watch. I don't truly like either candidate, so that makes it less exciting, but as a 'news oriented' person, this is incredible theater.
