Taylor and Stewart Blowing People Away
(St. Louis, MO) – The weekly awards in the Ohio Valley and Missouri Valley Conferences are pretty obvious. Austin Peay’s Terry Taylor and UT Martin’s Parker Stewart are blowing people away. Those two have elevated their games above the rest.
Ohio Valley Conference
Terry Taylor has claimed his second straight ‘Player of the Week‘ award and his sixth overall. The ‘Preseason Player of the Year‘ is head and shoulders above his competitors. Austin Peay won two road games and Taylor averaged a double-double (20.5 points & 10.5 rebounds). He became the ninth APSU player to reach the 600 field goal plateau.
Taylor is one of 13 active Division 1 players with at least 1,500 points and 700 career rebounds. His 23.2 points-per-game scoring average leads the OVC and is fourth nationally.
If Taylor is the obvious league-wide award winner, then Stewart is the run away ‘Newcomer of the Week‘ recipient. The award is Stewart’s fourth of the season. The 6’5 Pittsburgh transfer averaged 26 points, 4.5 rebounds and four assists. Stewart’s 31 points against Tennessee State marked the third time he topped the 30-point mark this season. His 19.7 point scoring average trails only Taylor in the OVC scoring race.
Stewart is blowing people away.
Austin Peay seems to have a stranglehold on the weekly freshmen awards too. Guard Jordyn Adams has taken home four ‘Freshman of the Week‘ awards and now teammate Carlos Paez has added his third such award. His 16 second-half points sparked the Governors to a road win at Jacksonville State.

Missouri Valley Conference
Bradley’s Darrell Brown JR led the Braves to two conference wins. The defending Arch Madness Champions (3-1) are tied with Loyola and Northern Iowa for first place. Brown scored 16 points against Evansville and 21 against Southern Illinois as BU secured two lopsided victories. The ‘Player of the Week‘ award is the first this season for Brown.
Drake sophomore transfer Roman Penn continues his habit of blowing people away. His all-round game is what impresses many. The ‘Newcomer of the Week’ averaged 11.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 8.5 assists last week. The Siena transfer leads the Valley (6.0) in assists per game and is fourth in steals and in assist/turnover ratio.
