Ohio Valley
OVC Championship Game
Little Rock & Morehead State
(St. Louis, MO) – An NCAA Tournament berth is on the line as Little Rock and Morehead State face off in tonight’s OVC Championship game. The Trojans have never won an Ohio Valley Conference Tournament title while Morehead last cut down the nets in 2021.
These two tied UT Martin for the regular season championship as all three finished the season with 14-4 OVC marks. Little Rock (21-11) has won ten straight games and after a midseason, injury induced slump, Morehead State has won five-in-a-row.
While the Eagles had to win two games to reach this title game, the Darrell Walker coached Trojans, as the top seeded team played just one. They defeated fourth seeded Western Illinois in convincing fashion (82-57) as four Trojans reached double figures.
Preston Spradlin has led the Eagles (25-8) to four straight twenty-win seasons.
Morehead State overcame sixth seeded Southern Illinois Edwardsville and second seeded UT Martin. Last night’s win over the Skyhawks was an 84-78 shootout. OVC Player of the Year Riley Minix scored 26 points and Kalil Thomas made seven three-pointers on the way to a 23-point, ten rebound, double-double.
The OVC championship game is a rematch of a mid-February game won by the Trojans in Little Rock. Morehead State was playing without all-OVC guard Jordan Lathon and Little Rock prevailed 69-68.
Game time is 7:00 pm on ESPN2
