OVC/MVC Awards Rolling In

Taylor Sets SIUE Record

(St. Louis, MO) – Southern Illinois Edwardsville’s Ray’Sean Taylor is the Cougars’ all-time Division 1 scoring leader and that keeps awards rolling in. The Ohio Valley and Missouri Valley Conferences have announced their weekly award winners.

Taylor surpassed his former teammate Shamar Wright for the Cougar scoring leadership.

Players of the Week

SIUE’s Taylor scored 23 points to take over the scoring leadership and spark the Cougars to home win against Western Illinois. He added 18 against Lindenwood and the OVC’s ‘Player of the Week’ has amassed 1,576 career points and earned his second ‘player’ award this season.

Evansville’s Tayshawn Comer recorded back-to-back career high scoring marks. The Eastern Kentucky transfer scored 24 points against Indiana State and 26 against Southern Illinois. Comer is the second Evansville player to earn a weekly award. His ‘Player of the Week’ honor ties him with rookie Gabriel Pozzato who earned one ‘Freshman of the Week’ award.

Newcomer Awards Rolling In

Western Illinois’s Marko Maletic picked up his second OVC ‘Newcomer of the Week’ award. The Toledo transfer averaged 26.5 points during a two-game split for the Leathernecks. Maletic leads the OVC and is twelfth nationally making 3.47 three-pointers per game.

Belmont earned a split of its two games and Jonathan Pierre earned his second MVC ‘Newcomer of the Week’ award. Pierre averaged 20.5 points and 9.5 rebounds as the Bruins lost at Northern Iowa and defeated UIC at home. He joins Indiana State’s Samage Teel as the only Valley players with more than one ‘newcomer’ award.

Rookie Awards Rolling In

Jadis Jones

Lindenwood’s Jadis Jones nabbed his fifth OVC ‘Freshman of the Week’ honor. The 6’5 wing averaged 9.5 points and 5.5 rebounds during two rough road games. Jones is the Lions’ third leading scorer (11.0 ppg) and leading rebounder (6.7 per game).

Valparaiso claimed a pair of wins and guard All Wright earned his third MVC ‘Freshman of the Week’ award. Wright averaged 10.5 points and three assists during the two-game sweep. The 6’3 guard is the Valley’s leading freshman scorer (10.3 ppg) and distributor (2.9 apg).
