OVC/MVC Week Six Women’s Award Winners
Stars Continue to Emerge
(St. Louis, MO) – Freshmen continue to make waves in the Missouri Valley and Ohio Valley Conferences. The week six women’s award winners include some new names, but trends are emerging in the two leagues.
With two weeks left in the non-conference schedule, several teams and players are staking their claim to successful seasons and places on post-season all-conference teams.
Week Six MVC Award Winners
The Missouri Valley’s second leading scorer has finally secured a ‘Player of the Week’ award. Drake’s Katie Dinnebier scored 26 points against Creighton and has now topped the twenty-point mark five times this year. Her 19.6 ppg scoring average is second to Murray State’s Katelyn Young’s 20.1 scoring average.
One of the Valley’s top distributors showed her ability to score. Missouri State’s Lacy Stokes is eighth in the MVC in assists (3.9 per game), but the junior guard poured in twenty-one points during the Lady Bears’ come-from-behind win over Wichita state. This week’s ‘Newcomer of the Week’ award is Stokes’ second in the last thre weeks. She topped the twenty-point mark for the first time in her Missouri State career.
Evansville’s Maggie Hartwig grabbed her second ‘Freshman of the Week’ award in the last four weeks. Hartwig racked up her third double-double of the season during the Purple Aces’ win over Lindenwood. Her 16-point/twelve rebound performance propelled the Aces to their first home win this season.
Week Six OVC Award Winners
UT Martin’s Kenly McCarn earned her team’s first ‘Player of the Week’ honor. The 5’11 freshman averaged twenty-one points and six rebounds as the Skyhawks split a pair of games. McCarn has stacked up five straight double-digit performances and is also this week’s ‘Freshman of the Week’ She has claimed that award in two of the last three weeks. Teammate Norah Clark also earned that honor during the season’s third week.
Tennessee State’s Jordan Aikens is the Tigers’ third player to nab a ‘Newcomer of the Week’ award. Following teammates Sanaa’ St. Andre and Caitlin Anderson, Aikens is the week six winner. The grad-transfer tallied a season-high fifteen points during the Tigers’ only game.
