OVC/MVC Women Week Four Award Winners

Explosive Scorers Making a Mark

(West Africa) – Week four award winners for the Missouri Valley and Ohio Valley Conferences are building profiles that could lead to winning year-end awards. Two of this week’s winners have claimed weekly honors three times in four weeks.

As we head ever closer to the end of the calendar year and to conference play, these stars are cementing themselves as the top players on other team’s scouting reports.

Week Four Award Winners – Missouri Valley Conference

Belmont’s Kilyn McGuff recorded back-to-back career performances during the Bruins’ two victories. McGuff grabbed a career high, ten rebounds in one game and a season high 22 points in the next. For the week, the Valley’s ‘Player of the Week’ averaged 20 points and nine rebounds. McGuff is one of five Belmont players averaging double digits (10.9).

Missouri State junior Lacy Stokes is moving into a leadership for the Lady Bears. She leads the team in assists and has scored in double figures in four straight games. This week’s ‘Newcomer of the Week’ scored 12 points, grabbed five boards and handed out six assists during the Lady Bears’ win over Tulane. Stokes’ name can be found all over the Valley’s statistical leader board.

Murray State went two-and-oh last week and a big reason was the play of freshman Zoe Stewart. The rookie guard scored 14 and thirteen points during the Racer wins. This week’s ‘Freshman of the Week’ shot 55% from the field and handed out seven assists during the two victories.

Southern Illinois Edwardsville’s K.K. Rodriguez continues to light up the scoreboard. The 5’6 guard was held to twelve points against Michigan and responded with a 34-point torching of Northern Illinois. Rodriguez leads the OVC and ranks ninth nationally with a 23.0 scoring average. She is third nationally in free throw attempts and makes and as ‘Co-Player of the Week’ Rodriguez has claimed the weekly honor three straight times.

Eastern Illinois’ Macy McGlone averaged 19.5 points and twelve rebounds during the Panthers’ two losses. The 6’3 junior recorded her third double-double of the season with a 29-point/fourteen rebound performance. This week’s ‘Co-Player of the Week’ joins teammate Lalani Ellis as winners of this weekly honor.

Caitlin Anderson makes it two weeks in a row for Tennessee State. After teammate Sanaa’ St. Andre claimed the ‘Newcomer of the Week’ award last week, Anderson succeeds this week. The 5’6 grad student averaged 12.5 points, four rebounds and 3.5 assists as the Lady Tigers dropped a pair of games to ‘power conference’ teams.

Two freshmen are sharing the ‘Freshman of the Week’ award, but Western Illinois’ Raegan McCowan is an integral part of the Western Illinois 6-0 start and has landed her third weekly honor. The 5’11 freshman averaged 21.5 points and 7.5 rebounds during the Leathernecks’ two victories.

UT Martin’s Kenly McCarn becomes the sixth OVC freshman to be honored as ‘Freshman of the Week’. The Skyhawk guard averaged 21 points-per-game and was a perfect ten for ten from the charity stripe. During her 23-point performance against Evansville, UTM broke into the win column for the first time.

The men’s week four award winners were announced earlier.

Playing the point at @UEAthletics_MBB is @EKUHoops transfer Tayshawn Comer. The @ValleyHoops squad opens its season on Tuesday, but we wanted to get to know Comer now. Here is our conversation. #ValleyRunsDeep #NCAAHoops

Graphic from @NateSilver538. As a 'news watcher' this is one of the most fascinating elections to watch. I don't truly like either candidate, so that makes it less exciting, but as a 'news oriented' person, this is incredible theater.
