Ohio Valley
OVC Weekly Standouts
Game Winners & Lots of Dimes
(St. Louis, MO) – Terry Taylor just keeps on making history and Wendell Green is putting up Ja Morant-like numbers. They are two of the OVC weekly standouts. Taylor collected his FIFTIETH DOUBLE-DOUBLE and banked home a game-winner.
Austin Peay’s Taylor scored 38 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in the Governors’ three-point win over Eastern Illinois and it was Taylor’s triple with time running out that won the game. Taylor is the Ohio Valley Conference’s ‘Player of the Week’. The award is his record tying fifteenth honor. He joins Morehead State standout Kenneth Faried with 15 weekly awards.
The 6’5 senior ranks sixth nationally in rebounds (11.4 per game) and is twenty-first in scoring (21.2 ppg).
While Taylor’s hall-of-fame career is on display, Eastern Kentucky freshman Wendell Green is doing special things. During Saturday’s 90-80 victory, the 5’11 guard handed out FIFTEEN ASSISTS! For the week he averaged 12.5 points, nine assists and 4.5 rebounds. Green has won back-to-back ‘Freshman of the Week’ honors. The 15 assist performance was the most by any OVC player, since Morant delivered 16 dimes in 2019.
Jacksonville State players have hauled in back-to-back ‘Newcomer of the Week’ awards. This week’s winner is Brandon Huffman. The 6’10 transfer (North Carolina) averaged a double-double (14.5 points and 13 rebounds. He logged a 16 point/16 rebound game against EKU. Until Taylor’s 17 rebound game, it was the largest output by an OVC player this season. Amanze Ngumezi earned the award last week.
