Prep Star Parents Speak – Part One
The Parents of Luke Walsh & Sam Donald’s
(St. Louis, MO) – When your son signs a Division 1 basketball scholarship, there are many stories to tell. Youth basketball trips, recruiting stories, and lessons learned as prep star parents speak. St. Louis area stars Luke Walsh (Saint John Vianney) and Sam Donald (Columbia High School) have inked deals at mid-major programs.
Walsh will be playing for Southern Illinois of the Missouri Valley Conference and Donald will attend Bellarmine of the ASUN. Donald’s father, Jeremy helps run the preeminent youth basketball program in the St. Louis metro area (CNR League) and Walsh’s father, Kevin is the long time head basketball coach at Vianney.
Donald’s CNR League serves hundreds of teams and thousands of players. Walsh has coached the Golden Griffins for thirty years and has won nearly 400 games. The 6’2 Luke Walsh led the St. Louis area with a 32.2 points-per-game average and 4.45 three-pointers per game. Donald is a 6’8 forward that led the Eagles in scoring (16.3 ppg), rebounding (7.8) and assists (3.7).
While Columbia finished 26-7, Vianney went 18-11.
Here in Part One of our conversation we discuss their sons’ youthful beginnings, playing club basketball and even playing together during summer basketball opportunities. These two prep star parents simply ooze a love for their sons, basketball and youth sports.
During Part Two of ‘prep star parents’ we discuss the recruiting process and why Donald and Walsh chose their universities and basketball programs.
