Preseason Picks Shining

Krutwig & Taylor Take Top Honors

(St. Louis, MO) – Preseason picks for ‘Player of the Year‘ in both the Missouri Valley and Ohio Valley Conferences are shining. This week, both league’s top honors go to the preseason picks Cameron Krutwig (MVC) and Terry Taylor (OVC).

A brand new weekly award winner has been added in each conference.

Loyola’s Krutwig snagged his first weekly honor after earning his first ever triple double. The 6’9 Rambler center scored 22 points, grabbed ten rebounds and handed out ten assists in LUC’s upset win over Vanderbilt. This week’s ‘Player of the Week‘ ranks in the Valley’s top five in scoring, rebounding, shooting percentage and assists.

Drake’s Roman Penn is the latest player to receive one of the Valley’s weekly commendations. The Siena transfer scored 38 points during the Bulldogs’ two non-conference wins and is this week’s ‘Newcomer of the Week‘. His career-high 22 points sparked Drake’s win over Air Force. The 5’10 guard is the fourth different player to earn that distinction. Evansville’s DeAndre Williams has claimed four of the ‘Newcomer‘ titles.

Ohio Valley Conference

Speaking of four-time winners, the OVC’s preseason ‘Player of the Year‘ is proving that respect was not misplaced. By earning this week’s award, Austin Peay’s Terry Taylor is an OVC, four-time ‘Player of the Week‘. Taylor AVERAGED 27.7 points and nine rebounds during the Governors’ three games. The 6’5 junior leads the OVC in scoring and rebounding.

Tennessee State’s Shakem Johnson earned his and TSU’s first weekly award of the year. Johnson averaged 19 points and five rebounds during the Tigers’ two games. The Navarro College transfer is this week’s ‘Newcomer of the Week‘. He is currently the conference’s second most accurate shooter (.703).

Jordyn Adams is no stranger to this weekly report and neither is Austin Peay. Adams earned his third ‘Freshman of the Week‘ nod by scoring 60 points during the Governors’ three games. Teammate Carlos Paez has earned two of these ‘Freshman‘ notifications and Taylor has those four ‘Player‘ awards.
