Reinventing During Advent
(St. Louis, MO) – UM-St. Louis took ‘Advent Season’ to heart. They re-invented themselves in a game Saturday against Trevecca Nazarene. They won a 94-91 overtime contest and improved to 5-5.
Bob Sunvold’s team had dropped three of their last four games and were struggling to score. Prior to Saturday’s game, the Tritons averaged 71 points per game and scored more than 81 points one time. But on Saturday, they scored at will with numerous bombs on a Trojan squad that matched them with each scoring strike.
The teams were tied at the half (42 all) and at the end of the game (81 each), but in overtime Brandon Marquardt emerged and led the Tritons to perhaps their best win of the season. Marquardt scored nine of his team high 26 points in the overtime. The 6’2 senior buried six three pointers (he has 38 in 10 games), but just as important were his aggressive ‘game-on-the-line’ rebounds in extra time.
Sunvold’s team was free-willing and shot over 60% from the field and dished out 27 assists on 36 field goals. Point guard Joseph English handed out a team high eight assists against just two turnovers.
