Rich Zvosec – Inside the CIT
CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament
(St. Louis, MO) – Numerous postseason basketball tournaments are launching this week and Rich Zvosec is right in the middle of them. The ESPN broadcaster is part of the selection committee for the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament, is announcing games at the NAIA National Tournament and provides analysis to people all over the country.
The CIT was started to give deserving ‘mid-majors’, snubbed by the NCAA and NIT Tournaments, a place to continue their seasons. Zvosec is a former college coach and broadcasts numerous college games.
He says CollegeInsider.com fills the gap in coverage for mid-major programs and that the tournament continues to grow and adjust. There are 32 teams in this year’s championships.
After the NCAA Tournament and the NIT, the CIT and the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) fight for headlines, teams and television coverage. Zvosec says the major difference between the two tournaments is about who is invited.
With the expanded field there are plenty of great games. Zvosec breaks down a couple of them for us.
Editor: The CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament launched last night with NJIT defeating Quinnipiac 92-81. Zach Cooks led the Highlanders (22-12) with 34 points. The Bobcats finish the season with a record of 16-15.
What About the Valley?
Three Missouri Valley Conference teams will play postseason basketball. Drake is in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament and Bradley is dancing in the NCAA Tournament. Last year’s Final Four squad, Loyola plays in the NIT. Zvosec thinks two of those three teams should have some postseason success.
Roughly half (148 of 353) of the Division 1 teams play in some postseason tournament. It is ‘hoop junky heaven’ and don’t overlook the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament.
