Runaway Leaders

Week 15 OVC Awards

(St. Louis, MO) – This week’s Ohio Valley Conference award winners are the runaway leaders in their categories. With the exception of two year-end awards that are still up for grabs, we believe four of them are wrapped up.

These outstanding performers also sparked their teams to undefeated weeks in OVC play. On both the men’s and women’s side of the standings, we also have some runaway leaders.

Players of the Week

Morehead State’s Riley Minix continues to be the best player on the league’s best team and put together another great week. The 6’7 wing earned his fifth ‘Player of the Week’ award for averaging twenty-eight points and 11.5 rebounds for the streaking Eagles. Morehead (20-5, 11-1) has won seven straight games and leads the OVC race by three games. Minix is the league’s leading scorer (19.6 points per game).

The ’Player of the Year’ is the most wide-open race left in the OVC. This week Western Illinois’ Raegan McCowan and UT Martin’s Norah Clark share the ‘Player of the Week’ award. McCowan racked up two more double-doubles and her third ‘Player’ notification.

Clark totaled forty points during the Skyhawks’ two road wins. The 6’1 forward shot 50% from the field and also collected 13 rebounds. This is Clark’s first ‘Player of the Week’ award.

Newcomers

Minix has dominated this weekly award all season. The Southeastern University transfer was named the ‘Newcomer of the Week’ for the second straight week, three of the last four and six times overall. Last week’s twin, double-doubles give him a league-leading twelve for the season. He is fourteenth nationally in that category and he leads the OVC in rebounding (9.4 per game).

Tennessee State’s Sanaa’ St. Andre is the ‘Newcomer of the Week’ for the third time in the last three weeks and for the fourth time this season. The Tigers won both of last week’s games as St. Andre scored 19 and then 18 points. Little Rock’s Leilani Wimbish-Gay has taken the award to Arkansas three times.

Rookie Runaway Leaders

Little Rock’s Jaylen Crocker-Johnson is lapping the field. The 6’8 freshman is now the possessor of three-straight (and seven overall), ‘Freshman of the Week’ honors. While the Trojans were winning both of their games, Crocker-Johnson averaged 9.5 points and 6.5 rebounds, including a 20-point, eleven rebound performance against UT Martin.

Tennessee Martin’s Jaylen Jones has earned four of the rookie weekly honors.

Clark and McCowan are each freshmen, so they are sharing the ‘Freshman of the Week’ award as well as the ‘Player’ award. Clark’s freshman honor is her second, but McCowan dominates this category. The Lebanon, Missouri native has now accumulated ten ‘Freshman of the Week’ honors.

Do Good
