Selection Show Sunday – Brian Barone

SIUE Coach Talks About the Celebration

(St. Louis, MO) – Southern Illinois Edwardsville had a huge Selection Show Sunday party and head coach Brian Barone joined us Sunday night. The Cougars (22-11) faces Houston (30-4) Thursday in Wichita. Barone has turned the Cougars into an upper-level Ohio Valley Conference team and is the reigning OVC Tournament champions.

Sunday, First Community Bank Arena was filled with fans and supporters and when CBS announced the Cougars’ placement in the NCAA Tournament field, the crowd erupted and the reality of it all has become more and more real.

Barone turned SIUE from a program that had never achieved a winning season, to a program with 58 wins over the last three seasons. OVC ‘Player of the Year’ Ray’Sean Taylor is a huge part of that great success. Taylor was also the OVC Tournament MVP.

During our conversation, Barone talked about the celebration, his team’s determination to beat Houston and his long-standing relationship with Houston’s hall-of-fame coach Kelvin Sampson.

Enjoy our Selection Show Sunday conversation with Brian Barone.

We will be in Wichita this week to cover the Cougars and the Drake Bulldogs.

Flooding, lightning strikes, etc. have cost @RacersHoops two home games. Had to play 'neutral site' tonight instead of at home and Wednesday's goes from home to away. Tough break for the Racers, and the whole area has been hit with difficulties. #FatherHarry

Murray State's scheduled home game Wednesday vs. Southern Illinois being moved to Banterra Center in Carbondale. #ValleyHoops

Gigantic game for @BradleyUMBB today in Des Moines. If they have a chance to catch @DrakeBulldogsMB, they have to win today. The Bulldogs can basically win the title today. @BustingBrackets breaks it all down. #FatherHarry https://bit.ly/3EGiVgi

Not rooting for any particular @ValleyHoops, but chaos is always fun. If things break certain ways, after today there could be a six-way tie for fifth place.
