SEMO’s Brad Korn and Phillip Russell @ OVC Media Day

Redhawks Could Be the Sleeper

(St. Louis, MO) – SEMO’s Brad Korn has assembled a team that could be the Ohio Valley Conference’s sleeper. The Redhawks were picked fourth in the recent league poll. With eight new players there is much to learn about this year’s team, but the talent level is high.

Korn begins his third season in Cape Girardeau with a perhaps his most talented roster. Preseason all-conference guard Phillip Russell leads a group of players with all-league potential. Veteran Chris Harris (feature photo) slumped last year after being an all-OVC selection two seasons ago and Korn says the 6th year player is in the best shape of his life.

Russell’s former teammate at Vashon High School in St. Louis, Kobe Clark transferred from Georgetown and has immense potential. A shut-down defender, Clark can play multiple positions and was an elite player for one of the best high school programs in St. Louis.

Transfers Israel Barnes (Division 2) and Josh Earley and Gavyn Elkamil (each from Tulsa) have landed Cape and valuable returners Dylan Branson and Nate Johnson are ready to expand their roles. Aquan Smart (Florida International) formerly played at Maryland and brings another veteran presence to the SEMO backcourt.

During the OVC media day we were privileged to meet with SEMO’s Brad Korn and with Russell.

There is height on this year’s team. Netherlands native David Idada, freshmen Adam Larson and Mason Hanback all stand 6’9 or better. They provide solid support in the paint for the returning from injury Johnson.
