SIUE’s New Athletic Director

Andrew Gavin Leads the Cougar Program

(St. Louis, MO) – Southern Illinois Edwardsville’s ninth director of athletics is Andrew Gavin. SIUE’s new athletic director comes to the Cougar program from Wisconsin-Parkside. Gavin has previously worked at the Division 1 level and comes to Edwardsville after six years of handling the same role at Parkside.

SIUE Chancellor James T. Minor says he’s excited about the program’s new director.

Andrew brings a wealth of diverse experiences that will help SIUE realize its ambition to graduate champions,” said Minor. “It is clear that he has the capacity to improve the competitiveness of our athletics program while supporting SIUE coaches and staff, and most importantly our student athletes.

Gavin tells us it is the perfect time for he and his family to make this move.

Parkside has 15 varsity sport programs. Gavin also handled the school’s intramural and recreation operations. He says SIUE is rich with assets to be a successful Division 1 athletic program.

SIUE’s new athletic director was named the NACDA Division 2 Athletics Director of the Year for the 2021-22 athletic season. His work in Kenosha included serving as a Board Member of the YMCA. He believes community involvement locally in Edwardsville is very important. Gavin also believes connecting to the Greater St. Louis area will be vital.

While an Indiana native, Gavin has a daughter named ‘Peyton’, but she isn’t named after Mr. Manning. SIUE’s new athletic director assumes his new role on April 17.

Flooding, lightning strikes, etc. have cost @RacersHoops two home games. Had to play 'neutral site' tonight instead of at home and Wednesday's goes from home to away. Tough break for the Racers, and the whole area has been hit with difficulties. #FatherHarry

Murray State's scheduled home game Wednesday vs. Southern Illinois being moved to Banterra Center in Carbondale. #ValleyHoops

Gigantic game for @BradleyUMBB today in Des Moines. If they have a chance to catch @DrakeBulldogsMB, they have to win today. The Bulldogs can basically win the title today. @BustingBrackets breaks it all down. #FatherHarry https://bit.ly/3EGiVgi

Not rooting for any particular @ValleyHoops, but chaos is always fun. If things break certain ways, after today there could be a six-way tie for fifth place.
