SLU – Bess Named Co-Player of the Week

(Newport News, VA) –  The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Duquesne sophomore Eric Williams, Jr. and Saint Louis senior Javon Bess as its ‘Co-Players of the Week‘. St. Bonaventure freshman Kyle Lofton was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Feb. 11-17.

Williams averaged 18.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals in Duquesne’s two games last week. He had 15 points, eight rebounds and a career high-tying four steals at La Salle, followed by 22 points, eight rebounds and three steals in the win over George Washington. The guard from Port Huron, Mich., shot .632 from the field (12-of-19), including 3-of-6 from 3-point range and went 10-of-11 (.909) from the line for the week.

Bess led the Billikens with 20.0 points per game as SLU posted a pair of wins last week. The guard from Columbus, Ohio, shot 50 percent from 3-point range (6-of-12) and 89 percent (16-for-18) from the free-throw line. He scored a game-high 26 points in the road win at George Washington, where he went a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line for the second best mark from the stripe in school history.

Not rooting for any particular @ValleyHoops, but chaos is always fun. If things break certain ways, after today there could be a six-way tie for fifth place.
