Soderberg – SLU Is Great Job – (Sweet 16 in Chicago – Part 3)
(Chicago, IL) – Saint Louis University is working to fill their basketball head coaching vacancy and one man that should know, tells Valley Hoops Insider.com, that the SLU opening comes with many advantages.
Brad Soderberg is an assistant coach with the University of Virginia. The Cavaliers are here in Chicago for their Sweet Sixteen game with Iowa State. Soderberg was also the head basketball coach at Saint Louis University prior to Rick Majerus.
The classy and gracious Soderberg says the SLU job has some very distinct advantages and he would recommend it to his friends.
Soderberg has been a head coach in the NAIA, and in all three divisions of the NCAA. His career record is 338 and 204 (.624) overall, and 96-84 at the D1 level. He was an assistant under Dick Bennett at Wisconsin, and is now an assistant with Bennett’s son, Tony at Virginia.
Soderberg who has been in professional coaching for 30 years, was invited to the Cavaliers’ staff one year ago today, and now finds himself helping one of the top 16 teams in the country. He tells us the story of getting hired and how much he enjoys coaching with the younger Bennett.
You might find Brad Soderberg moving over those twelve inches to ‘the big chair’ again some day. He seems to still have that itch, and Valley Hoops Insider.com believes some university will find a gem when they hire Brad Soderberg.
