Special Weekly Accomplishments

Taylor An All-Time Great

(St. Louis, MO) – There were some special weekly accomplishments in the Missouri Valley and Ohio Valley Conferences. Valparaiso knocked off a nationally ranked team and Austin Peay’s Terry Taylor became his program’s all-time leading scorer. Oh and there were others!

Ohio Valley Conference

Terry Taylor had a record-breaking week. The 6’5 senior became Austin Peay’s all-time leading scorer (2,313) and by earning his sixteenth ‘Player of the Week‘ award he broke Kenneth Faried’s previous OVC record of 15 such awards. The former Morehead State star went on to truly prosper in the NBA. Taylor averaged 24.3 points and 10.7 rebounds and accumulated his nation leading twelfth and thirteenth double-doubles.

Taylor is sixth on the OVC’s all-time scoring list and three points from fifth. He is tenth on the career rebound’s list (1,142), just five from being ninth. The Governor’s star is eighth nationally in scoring AND in rebounding.

Morehead State has won eleven straight games and one of the keys to its success has been the play of Skyelar Potter. The Wright State transfer averaged 16 points and ten rebounds during last week’ two wins. Potter recorded his second career double-double during an overtime win against Taylor’s Governors and is this week’s ‘Newcomer of the Week‘.

Potter’s teammate Johni Broome is racking up ‘Freshman of the Week‘ awards. This week Broome shares the honor with co-winner Wendell Green. The Eastern Kentucky guard averaged 23.7 points, 8.3 assists and 4.3 rebounds for A.W. Hamilton’s Colonels. Broome averaged 17.5 points and nine rebounds.

Green and Broome have accumulated eight weekly awards (four each). The only other freshmen to crack the list have been Belmont’s JaCobi Wood, EKU’s Curt Lewis and Tennessee State’s Marcus Fitzgerald.

Missouri Valley Conference

Isiaih Mosley leads the Valley in scoring and is growing the rest of his game at the same time. The 6’5 sophomore averaged 21.5 points, seven rebounds and 6.5 assists last week. During MSU’s Sunday win at Illinois State he scored the team’s final nine points to secure the win. This week’s ‘Player of the Week‘ award is his third this season.

When you defeat a nationally ranked team, you will get noticed. Valparaiso ended twenty-fifth ranked Drake’s 18-game winning streak and freshman Sheldon Edwards did get noticed! Sports Center noticed.

Edwards averaged 15.5 points for the weekend and is this week’s ‘Newcomer of the Week‘.
